ABOUT US
Higher Ground Australia, the Australian Friends of John Denver, is a locally-formed globally recognised fan-based group dedicated to the memory of John Denver. Since forming in 2001, HGA has organised an annual tribute weekend to commemorate the death of John Denver on 12th October, 1997. These tributes are held in different parts of Australia and coincide with annual events organised in Aspen, Colorado and Monterey, California.
As part of the tribute weekends, Higher Ground Australia donates one or more native trees to the venue in which the event is held.
To date, trees have been planted in Halls Gap Victoria, Barrington Tops NSW, Warburton Victoria, Boonah Queensland, Bateman’s Bay NSW, Port Stephens NSW, Creswick Victoria, Bowral NSW, and Kurri Kurri NSW, and Cowes, Victoria.
Each year, Higher Ground Australia donates picture story books to local schools and fundraising activities provide an annual donation to raptor rehabilitation. Since 2002, Higher Ground Australia has donated approximately $8,000 to various private raptor rehabilitation centres in New South Wales, Victoria, and Queensland. They have recently formed a strong association with the ‘Higher Ground Raptor Centre’ in the Southern Highlands of NSW, pledging to donate to this worthy organisation exclusively.
